Sri Maha Mariamman Temple, Mount Matang, Kuching Sarawak

Hey everyone, welcome back to my Blog. Today, we’re heading to one of Kuching’s hidden spiritual gems. Sri Maha Mariamman Temple, located at the foothills of Mount Matang. It’s a peaceful and sacred place that beautifully represents the Tamil Hindu community here in Sarawak.


As soon as you arrive, the first thing you’ll notice is the vibrant architecture. the temple’s gopuram, or tower gate, is decorated with intricate carvings of Hindu deities, each symbolizing protection, wisdom, and strength. This temple is dedicated to Goddess Mariamman, known as the protector against diseases and a symbol of motherly love and compassion.


The peaceful sound of bells, the smell of incense, and the calm chants make the whole atmosphere feel sacred. It’s quiet, surrounded by greenery you can really feel a sense of stillness here. The temple sits close to the base of Matang, so the view is naturally beautiful a mix of spiritual energy and the serenity of nature.


The temple is an important spiritual centre for the local Hindu community. Festivals like Thaipusam and Navarathiri are celebrated here with great devotion bringing together people of all backgrounds to witness Sarawak’s rich cultural diversity. Whether or not you’re here for worship, this place reminds you to slow down and reconnect with yourself, with nature, and with the beauty of different cultures that make Kuching so special.


So that’s my visit to Sri Maha Mariamman Temple, Mount Matang. A beautiful, peaceful spot filled with colours, devotion, and calm energy. If you’re exploring Kuching and love cultural or spiritual places, this one’s definitely worth visiting.

Larut Matang Food Court , Taiping

  When you travel to Taiping, it is not necessary for you to dine in a air conditioning restaurant for seafood dinner, the better choice is to try the local Malaysian foods in a famous hawker center , the one place that's always crowded is the Larut Matang Hawker Centre .  There are Malay, Chinese and Indian food for you. Please come with empty stomach and enjoy eating , for those who know Taiping, They call it “Cai Chi” (Hokkien). Many of us call it “Downstair of Larut Matang” also, it’s just opposite to Taiping Jaya Supermarket . Larut Matang Food Court located at Jalan Panggung Wayang is probably the best place to hunt for hawkers' food during the day time .
